Scouting Programs for Boys and Girls

“Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up.”   Galatians 6:7-10

Boy Scouts: Cub Scout Program

St.Veronica’s Pack 300 is leading the charge to grow Cub Scouting in Howell.  Ours is a proven program and far more than an after-school activity.  Cub Scouting offers boys in grades 1-4 an action-packed program that enhances self-confidence.  Our program encourages young boys to explore new interests, learn new skills, become good citizens and most important, to learn to “Do Your Best.”

Cub Scout programs also encourage family involvement to help the boys achieve their scouting goals.  Activities cover a broad range of interests including: camping, hiking, nature, science, woodworking, archery, crafts, art, music, cooking, fitness, safety, games and community service activities.

Our leaders provide positive role models, encourage family togetherness and nourish the faith of our young boys.  With all these goals in mind, we are also looking for participation by parents, former Scouts and leaders who desire a return to Scouting.

Pack meetings are usually the last Tuesday of each month, in the School Cafeteria at 7:00 PM

Boy Scouts: Boy Scout Program

Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys age 11 – 17.  Boy Scouts offer outdoor activities, peer group leadership opportunities, and a personal exploration of career, hobby and special interests, all designed to achieve our objectives of strengthening character, personal fitness and good citizenship.

Troop 300 recently celebrated 25 consecutive years of service to our community.  We have seen 43 of our young men earn the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout while helping develop all our young scouts into fine young men.

Our Troop Meetings are held on Tuesday evenings at St Veronica School Cafeteria.  The meetings begin at 7:00 PM and end at 8:30 PM.  Our Scouting year begins in September and ends in June.  We also encourage our Troop to attend our Summer Camp each year, a one week experience during late July.

We encourage family participation and look forward to working with the parents of each member.  For more information please contact Scoutmaster Jack Pierri at 609-698-0364 or Committee Chairman Mark Vincent at 732-308-1363.

Girl Scout Program at St. Veronica School

Girl Scouting at St. Veronica is aimed at enriching the spiritual and personal development of those Catholic young women who are members of our St. Veronica Troop.  The Girl Scout program can change the way girls see the world and their place in it.  Programs help scouts understand the importance of giving service to their families, Church and community.  As they explore a wide range of activities, they will become more aware of the presence of God in their daily lives, within their families and parish.  They also find out about building character and self-esteem, relating to others and developing values.

The Girl Scout program at Saint Veronica’s begins in Kindergarten with the Daisy group.  New troops are formed when a volunteer steps forward to lead the group.  Volunteer leaders and assistants are welcome!  We currently have troops up through 8th grade.  Starting in 7th grade, members become Senior scouts.  We have one troop per grade.  Troops meet from September to June.  Most troops meet after school in the cafeteria twice per month, but this is up to the leaders.  Some troops meet at leaders homes (typically the older troops).

Girl Scouts: Daisy Program (Grades K-1)

Daisy Girl Scouts meet in small groups with at least two adult leaders.  They may go on trips, learn about nature and science, explore arts and crafts, and begin to plan small service activities within community or parish.   Daisies can earn Learning Petals and receive participation patches.  Daisy Girl Scouts explore teamwork, sharing, doing good for others, and learning responsibility.  Volunteers are always welcome to help with the troop.

Girl Scouts: Brownie Program (Grades 2/3)

Brownie Girl Scouts work together in groups, earn Brownie Girl Scout Try-Its and explore and serve their parish and their community.  Friendship, fun and age appropriate activities begin at the Brownie Girl Scout meeting and move out into the community and wider world.  The Brownies at St Veronica’s have marched to find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes, and performed Christmas carols for residents of a local Assisted Living community.  Volunteers are always welcome to help with the troop.

Girl Scouts: Junior Girl Scouts  (Grades 4/6)

Junior Girl Scouts earn badges, learn more about the joy of service and discover what girl power is all about through new activities and by learning to take charge of their own plans.  They gain self-confidence as they explore the world in partnership with their troop leaders.

Girl Scouts: Senior Scouts (Grades 7/8)

Senior Girl Scouts focus on Leadership and Service.  They are encouraged to test their own skills and gifts by looking at the needs of their community, to think purposefully and intentionally about their role in the community, to learn how to obtain information, to develop a project, to take action and assess results.  Volunteers are always welcome to help with the troop.

How can my child join a troop at St Veronica’s?

We typically send interest flyers to families at the beginning of the school year through the yellow envelope, but anyone interested in joining a troop can notify the local Council: http://www.girlscoutsjs.org/membership/contactMembership.php

Council then notifies our leadership about the request.  If there is a troop available, they will be placed in touch with that leader.  If not, the child’s name is added to the list waiting for a troop to form.  Volunteer Troop Leaders and Assistants are always welcome.
