Missionaries of the Poor Lay Associates

“And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’   Matthew 25:40

We, the Missionaries of the Poor Lay Associates are a spiritual community of dedicated men and women who commit ourselves to the service of the least of our brethren locally and overseas, through a life of “joyful service with Christ on the cross.”  We strive to follow the spirituality of the Missionaries of the Poor, a religious order of over 550 brothers and priests founded by Rev. Fr. Richard Ho Lung (seen often on EWTN) in Kingston, Jamaica.

We support the MOP which has nine missions in seven countries: Kingston, Jamaica; Nairobi, Kenya; Kampala, Uganda; Naga, Philippines; Cebu, Philippines; Cap-Haitien, Haiti; Orissa, India; Warangal, India; and Charlotte, North Carolina. We direct annual food drives and work in the MOP musical productions.

We meet for Eucharistic Adoration at 8 p.m. every first Wednesday of the month at St. Veronica Church. We strive to meet once a week for prayer. For spiritual formation, MOP hosts laity retreats in Kingston, Jamaica. For retreat schedules please visit: www.missionariesofthepoor.org.

Our spiritual Advisers are Father Brian Kerr,M.O.P. and Father Charles Arumaiselvam, M.O.P.

In addition we work locally among the poor, as needs arise, and in housing the homeless during the winter, in the rectory basement.  Volunteer chaperones, drivers and food preparers are always welcome to help support the winter homeless program.

We invite parishioners to place prayer petitions into the MOP box in the vestibule of the Church.  We send your intentions to Jamaica and the Brothers and Priests of MOP as well as our members will pray for you.

Our Junior MOP Ministry is described in the Children’s Ministry section.

All men and women are welcome.  We invite you to pray with us, and to work with us here or in our MOP Missions abroad, to experience the richness we have found in the poor.

Mission Statement

As baptized Roman Catholic Christians, fully alive in the Holy Spirit, the parish of St Veronica radically proclaims our call to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. United with the Universal Church and centered in the celebration of the Eucharist, we recognize our call to holiness and transformation, leading us to experience a new springtime of evangelization. We strive to make our community a genuine school of prayer, where the faithful may fix their eyes on Christ until their hearts burn within them....
